Greenville, N.C., March 3, 2015 – DSM Dyneema’s Greenville facility has been selected as the recipient of North Carolina’s Pitt County Industry of the Year award for 2014-2015 by the Pitt County Development Commission in recognition of their efforts to drive greater sustainability, social responsibility and economic prosperity to Pitt County, demonstrating the company’s role as a model corporate citizen. The award was presented to Jim Lawless, Site Director, DSM Dyneema Greenville this afternoon and the company will be honored at the Existing Industries Appreciation Reception this evening at Rock Springs Center.
“We are impressed by DSM Dyneema’s ongoing contributions to the Pitt County business community, and are proud to celebrate them with this well-deserved award,” said Brad Hufford, Associate Director for Retention and Expansion at the Pitt County Development Commission. “In addition to the jobs and capital investment that DSM Dyneema has brought to Pitt County, their employee wellness and safety programs, their community involvement and ongoing collaboration with East Carolina University’s Middle School Innovators Academy and their ‘Roadmap 2020’ sustainability program demonstrate that their commitment to our region extends beyond economic development to the social and environmental needs of our community.”
Since the construction of their first U.S. facility in Greenville in 2001, DSM Dyneema has been an integral part of the Pitt County business community, investing over $250 million in the Greenville site, which produces ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMwPE) fiber branded as Dyneema®. Available as a fiber, tape or uni-directional (UD) sheet, Dyneema® is used for a wide and ever-increasing range of applications, including medical sutures, commercial fishing and aquaculture nets, ropes, slings, high-performance fabrics such as cut-resistant gloves and apparel and vehicle and personal ballistic protection.
“We manufacture material that is designed to protect and make lives brighter,” states Jim Lawless, Site Director, DSM Dyneema Greenville. Naturally, this mission extends to our own community, and we are focused on safeguarding our financial, intellectual and environmental stability in our region. We are honored to be named this year’s recipient of the Pitt county Industry of the Year award, and we will continue to be a valued partner in helping our community grow and prosper.”
The Industry of the Year award is part of the Pitt County Development Commission’s IndustryFIRST program, which helps to retain and grow nearly 100 existing manufacturing and distribution firms in the region. The award is presented annually to an industry that has made a significant positive contribution to the community.
